What a busy end of the week we have had in 8G, I feel like I blinked and it was Friday afternoon!

On Wednesday morning, we all took part in My Thinking and Problem Solving lesson. Our starter was Maths themed. We had to look carefully at the pictures on the board and tap on the one that was short or long, big or small. Some of the questions were a bit tricky but we helped each other out and got to the end of the quiz.

When we split into groups, Mrs Fisher's group were learning about long and short. They were labeling and sorting doctor's equipment and deciding which ones were long and which ones were short. Describing items as long and short is new vocabulary for a lot of us in 8G so we will keep practicing and keep using those words to describe things.

Mrs England's group were carrying on practicing their typing skills and recognising letters on the keyboard. Charlie scored 94% accuracy!! Brilliant work!! The rest of the group were practicing typing accurately by building a short phrase using Colourful Semantics, then typing it on the computer.

Over with Miss Aindow, Harrison and Rose were helping her to weigh out the ingredients that we needed for cooking that afternoon. Harrison did a fantastic job of recognising the numbers on the scale and telling Miss Aindow whether she had weighed out too much or not enough.

In the afternoon we split into our two groups ready for Food Technology and My Community lessons (please read our other blog to see how Group 1 got on making Fruity Flapjacks).

Group 1 went to cook with Mrs England and Miss Aindow, while Group 2 stayed in class with Mrs Fisher for a My Community lesson where we were working on our Self-Help and Independence skills.

Some of us were practicing getting ourselves dressed. We found it hard to tell when our clothes are inside out so we need to do more practice on recognising when clothes are the right way round and when they are inside out.

Some of us were tying shoe laces and have very nearly cracked it!

Finally, some of us were taking part in shared play and playing a turn taking game with a friend of our choice.

Our Doctor's surgery role play area is proving very popular with the learners in 8G and it seems that there is always a new patient needing to be seen by the Doctor or Nurse at the moment!

On Thursday morning it was time for a My Communication lesson and our last time reading Topsy and Tim go to the Doctors. I cannot believe how much of the story everyone has retained! It is so lovely to watch everyone with their hand's up, ready to answer every question that I pose about the story. Super work 8G!

It was time for everyone to split into their groups. Mrs England's group were practicing their writing skills, specifically letter formation and writing their name correctly and neatly. Lots of us find it hard to write on the line and to get our letters the right way round so we will keep practicing these things.

Mrs Fisher's group were using Colourful Semantics to build sentences about what our friends were doing in class (who, doing, what, where) and Miss Aindow's group were taking part in some shared play in the Doctor's surgery, as well as some mark making using our new mess-free paint pouches.

Thursday afternoon was PE and we joined together with 7G again to share some activities (please see our PE blog from this week).

Finally it was Friday! Mrs Fisher had a very important meeting in the morning so Mrs England and Miss Aindow were left in charge. Everyone worked together to create some amazing artwork for a very special competition for a doctor's surgery in Chorley.

Unfortunately, swimming lessons were cancelled on Friday afternoon due to Chorley All Seasons having technical difficulties. Fingers crossed all the issues are fixed ready for next week's lesson! Instead we all got to take part in some Golden Time.

And last of all, our Star of the Week this week for 8G was Thomas! Thomas has had a super week and has been completing all of his work that he has been set, as well as actively joining in with the majority of our activities throughout the week. Well done Thomas!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
