Hi everybody,
This half term, as part of our “dinosaurs” topic, 7R will be reading “Mary Anning and the Time Twister” by Louisa Glancy. Each week will be reading one chapter of the book on Purple Mash and then we will complete activities based on that chapter. During chapter 1, we met a class who were on a trip to Lyme Regis beach. The teacher told her class that she was going to take them back in time by exploring fossils, such as those found by Mary Anning. However, during a chant of “she sells sea shells on the sea shore”, two of the characters, Jasmine and Kyle actually ended up going back in time! I can’t wait to read the next chapter, can you? Some of you then went on to answer questions about the story (I was very impressed with your scores), you wrote about your favourite class trips, and some of you created very informative fact files about fossils. You’ve all worked really hard - well done!
For maths and problem solving last week, you continued to work on measurement and were challenged to use your measuring skills to make some recipes. I can see that Tyler has made a yummy pancake recipe! Delicious!
Last week we also did some work on online safety on Purple Mash. We watched a video where a young girl, Raveer, who is only 10, sets up a “Friendbook” page and she doesn’t have her settings set to private. We had to write about the situation and give Raveer some advice. We have come up with some excellent suggestions which you can read below!
As well as the activities sent home, Sophie also worked on the six star challenge that was launched on our Facebook and YouTube accounts last week. She achieved a silver award by completing 5/6 challenges! Wow! I wonder if more of you could join in with the challenges this week? Sophie has also sent in a picture with one of her hawks! Amazing! In addition, Jenny has been for some more lovely walks, Ruby has been getting busy planting in the garden, Emily has been writing about the Titanic and Thomas did some tricky work on money at school! Wow! Well done everybody!
I am so proud of you all! Keep working hard this week. Miss Beck, Miss O’Connell and I cant wait to see as many of you as possible on our Microsoft Teams video call on Friday! We are missing you all so much! Remember, we are all going to share something we have really enjoyed doing at home during lockdown to share some positivity this week!
Remember, keep sending in your photos and videos, and you can always email me through Purple Mash to tell me what you have been up to.
Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Crouch
