This week in 8G, we’ve been thinking about different types of jobs. We started off by reading a story about Charlie the firefighter. We then took turns to choose a job card, before sorting the cards into “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs”. We had some fantastic conversations about some of the jobs, and it was great to hear everyone’s different opinions. The class initially thought that some jobs could only be done by men and others by women.
We then looked at some images on the whiteboard of different people doing the jobs we had previously sorted. We were surprised to find photos of women doing jobs that the class had decided were only done by men - like builders, soldiers and firefighters. We also found photos of men who were doing jobs like professional dancer, hairdresser and cleaner. We were all surprised, but we decided that it was a good thing that actually all men and women could choose whatever job they wanted to, because no jobs are only for men, or only for women.
We continued our work on this topic, by using the “Book Creator” app on our iPads. We looked at photos of men and women doing different jobs, and made our own sentences using colourful semantics.
We finished our lesson by choosing what job we’d like to do when we grow up. Some of the class used colourful semantics to record this, whilst others either practiced their handwriting or their typing skills.
Well done everyone, this topic has given all of us plenty to think about, and it’s been really interesting to see how your ideas changed as our lesson developed.
