Today the class had a religious themed lesson in our ‘The World About Me’ session as part of our Autumn term religious focus. We looked at the Islamic charitable philosophy of Sadaqah.
This means being charitable and helping those in need. We had a whole class discussion about what charity means. The class said that charity was giving to others. They said this could be giving money, food or toys to others that need them or don’t have them.
We then discussed those who are less fortunate and focused on the homeless. We then offered pupils a sensory weather experience so they could start to understand how people can feel if they are sleeping on the streets. Following this we talked about what we could do to help a homeless person. The class said they could give them some spare change or buy them some food.
To conclude the session we challenged the pupils to perform an act of kindness by making a friend a drink. The pupils drew names out of a hat and then made a drink for the class member they had selected.
