This week we have focussed on being kind. As a class we had a discussion about Islam and what is meant by Sadaqah, it was a new word to the class so we discussed how it means being kind, being kind to each other, kind to family and kind to others. We discussed different ways that we are all kind and how kindness makes us feel. Everyone in class got a piece of paper with another friends name on and was asked to write a sentence about why their friend is kind. All of the sentences were read out and we had lots of lovely examples of kindness such as, sharing, being helpful, asking how people are and making people laugh. Mrs Cobham found a quote “One kind word can change someone’s day” and we made a collage of these kind words. Tyler and Callum both said it was nice to hear someone say something nice about them. We watched two animations about being kind, the first one was called Partly Cloudy and told the story of a stork and a cloud and even though the cloud gave him animals to deliver that hurt him he still went back and they stayed friends. The second was a story called being kind by Pat Zietlow Miller, it talked about how we can be kind to each other and how it makes us feel. Both of these animations looked at the challenges we sometimes face when being kind. Robyn said that reading the book Wonder helped to learn about kindness and said she liked the quote “when given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind” because sometimes being right might make someone feel sad so just be kind instead.
