As part 8A's Our Planet theme this half term, 8A have been learning about Sculptures as part of their My Creativity work.
Each week, we have focused on a different artist and this week it was Barbara Hepworth. In previous weeks we have learnt about Marc Quinn who liked to make sculptures of body parts from different materials, and Michelle Reader who made sculptures using recycled items.
We learnt that Barbara liked to make abstract sculptures (things that aren't meant to look like anything in particular) and we looked at Barbara's sculpture called The Family of Man. We talked about what we thought the sculptures looked like and how they could be people.
Then for our work, we split into two groups and used the hundreds of cardboard boxes that had been brought in (thank you again to everyone for doing this!) to make our own sculpture of a person. It was excellent to see everyone working together in their teams, giving instructions to their peers and following instructions from their peers too.
This morning, we all worked together to complete our sculptures by adding a coat of paint to them. I think you will agree that they look fantastic!
Super work, 8A!
