This week, as part of our topic looking at different culture, celebrations and festivals, Willow class have been learning all about Remembrance Day. We looked at why we wear poppies and how they were chosen to symbolise the end of the war. In our people of the world lesson we had a look at some artefacts from the Second World War, trying on helmets to feel how heavy they are and honk about what a tricky job the soldiers had. This brought up some interesting conversations about death and family members who have died and the children were so sensible asking great questions and reassuring each other that death and being sad is ok to talk about. We discussed how wearing poppies made up feel and lots of the children said proud that soldiers worked hard and happy because they liked the look of them.

During cooking we worked to  creat poppy biscuits completely independently of any adult help and had to communicate to adults what we needed them to fetch for us. We also made some beautiful poppy wreaths while we worked on our communication and fine motor skills.

Great work willow class!
