Kelsang Pagpa came to school today to share the main beliefs of Buddhism and to lead meditation for pupils ahead of Buddha Day next week.
Pagpa explained that the Buddhist way of life is very normal and that he feels at home when teaching at the Buddhist Centre in Preston. He expressed that he prays twice a day, once at 7.30am and again at 4.00pm. ‘Pagpa’ means ultimate truth.
We listened to the story of The Lotus, explaining that Buddhists want to achieve pureness, just like the lotus that emerges from the mud and eventually blossoms on top of the water.
Some pupils prepared and asked questions with great confidence. Pupils then engaged in guided meditation, here are some top tips for you to try at home:
- Sit with a straight back
- Rest hands on lap
- Close your eyes
- Think about breath
- Let your mind wander
Meditation can help when you are unhappy, worried, upset or stressed.
When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides, and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within.
