On Monday, it was Martin Luther King day and the class watched an PowerPoint how Martin Luther King changed the way people thought about people who weren’t white.

The PowerPoint explained how people that weren’t white were treated, like not being able to sit on the same bus, not being able to be in the same room as white people, having to be served at a different counter, just to name a few. The PowerPoint told us how Martin Luther King was famous for his speeches about the fact that everyone should be treated in the same way, and his famous saying, “I have a dream”.

Miss Robertson and Ms Carter did a little role play to help 7P understand.

Miss Robertson said because Ms Carter were wearing glasses, she wasn’t allowed to sit at the same table as Miss Robertson. The learners didn’t like what Miss Robertson had said. They said they felt sad for Miss Carter.

The learners then continued Martin Luther King day by doing a carousel of activities.

They coloured in an “I have a dream” book mark, coloured pictures of Martin Luther King and the American flag in. The learners even painted their hands and made a heart shape and wrote over the top, “I have a dream”. They then wrote out and told us what their dreams were which included being a singer and working for cartoon next work to name a few. What are your dreams?
