This weeks picture news featured Ellie Goldstein, asking the question 'Can we learn from others who prove people wrong?'. We talked about the obstacles people have to overcome to reach their dreams, and we have all had to overcome things to be the people we are today. We then thought about how our environment is important in helping people overcome obstacles, so we went around school finding things that make our school welcoming and accessible for anyone who comes to Astley Park School! In maths, we continued with our number and place value work, looking at comparing objects and using number lines. In the afternoon, we started our next Enterprise project making our Christmas baubles. We looked at the designs we created and thought about how we are going to layer our designs, so started by painting the base coat. It's going to be a long process but we will hopefully make some beautiful baubles!

On Tuesday morning, we revisited sentence structure in English, looking at how to accurately form a sentence and how to add descriptive information to a sentence to make it more exciting! In maths, some of us continued with comparing objects, some of us worked on estimating and some of us looked at algebraic formula! In the afternoon, we went swimming. Today we were working on the breast stroke, thinking about how our legs and arms move through the water.

Wednesday morning we read our books and worked on comprehension whilst reading. In maths, we all worked on comparing numbers - some of us up to 100, up to 10,000 and even up to 10,000,000! In the afternoon, we had round 2 of our options carousel. This week we worked with Miss Leafe on digital media. We started by talking about what digital media was and then we went around school interviewing people we met, asking them what they liked about school. The answers were obviously very varied but it was interesting to hear from other people.

On Thursday morning we spoke about skills and qualities that we have. We decided that skills are something we learn and qualities are something that we are born with. Skills we have in Year 11 are playing bass guitar, drawing, languages, dancing and bowling, along with many others. We said we had to practise these skills to get better. We also shared qualities that we have, including kindness, being trustworthy and being reliable. We said these things are really important in anything that we choose to do in life, and no matter how good we are at a skill, it doesn't really matter without those personal qualities!! In Chorley in Bloom, Gill had us working hard this week. We were at the Community Garden and sadly, the sleepers used for the flowerbeds have started to crumble so we were pulling down the flower beds and relocating the soil into other beds, so there was a lot of shovelling happening today. Everyone worked really hard. We spent the afternoon writing up what we had done for our ASDAN unit, Community Action.

Our Friday morning started in a slightly unusual way, with a spooky story from on of our learners. We helped to set the scene by closing the blinds, putting on spooky background music and providing a torch to add to the 'spookiness'! It was an entertaining way to start the day! Julie from Keepmoat Houses came to see us again this week. After learning about skills and qualities on Thursday, Julie had us put these into action, by setting us a problem solving team work activity. She gave us lots of strange parts, including a wheel, ropes, nuts and bolts and with it we had to create a structure with the smallest base possible! It was a really hard challenge but with team work and communication, we worked well together and had a great go at the activity! In the afternoon we had golden time and celebration assembly.

**Star of the Week** this week is Joseph, for his fantastic story telling, for great team work in our careers session and for amazing heavy lifting at Chorley in Bloom! Well done Joseph!
