This morning 11R took part in a meditation session, focusing on Buddha with intense burning in the background. Pupils followed a guided relaxation video helping us to set stress and relax. This is a practice often carried out in the Buddhist religion. We ended the meditation with a feelings circle time. Many pupils said they were relaxed and calm, some pupils said they feel strange. This is something we are going to explore more of.

After this we looked at what Vesak was. Pupils learnt that this is the celebration of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. We also compared the festival to different religions. We learnt that in Thailand many celebrate Vesak by making paper lanterns so this is what we did.

Happy early Vesak everyone’s! (Normally celebrated on the day of the first full moon in May).
