Today 7R celebrated “History day” as we missed it last week due to our Calvert residential trip. We have had a fantastic day!

This morning, Mrs Crouch split us into research teams. Each team was given research questions to find out the answer to. The teams had to delegate roles to decide a researcher, a scribe and an illustrator. The teams created a poster that they could use to share the answer to their research questions. They then presented what they had learnt to the class. We found out that the Romans came from Rome in Italy; that Romans created new ways to build, brought different foods, brought roads and created the calendar; that the Romans invaded countries including Britain; and we found out the armour worn by a Roman soldier. Everybody worked really hard on the task and we learnt lots from each other!

Next, we learnt about Roman mosaics during an “art and creativity” session. We found out that wealthy Romans had mosaics in their houses that could represent different scenes. We looked at different mosaics from Roman times and then had a go at creating our own mosaic using tissue paper, colouring orb using an activity on Purple Mash.

This afternoon, during “maths and problem solving”, we found out about Roman numerals. We matched different Roman numerals to numbers and Numicon shapes and created our own clocks using Roman numerals. Some of us found understanding the numerals tricky!

Well done 7R for a fantastic day! You have learnt lots about the Romans and were rewarded by some time watching the Horrible Histories “Rotten Romans” movie at the end of the day!
