Today we looked at challenging gender stereotypes. We first of all read a story about Charlie the firefighter and found out that she was a girl even though we at first thought that she would be a boy. We then looked at different jobs using a colourful semantics resource on the book creator app on the iPad. Students built sentences to describe both a man and a woman being able to do the same jobs. We looked at soldiers, police, firefighters, builders and nurses. We also mixed and matched photos of different people doing these jobs to practice our fine motor skills too. Some students also created their own Picollage by screen grabbing photos of men and women doing the same jobs and using the technology to create colourful posters.
