This week at school we are thinking about challenging gender stereotypes. In 7A we have been thinking about gender stereotypes in terms of job roles. We read the story “Charlie The Firefighter” and discussed whether we thought Charlie would be a male or female firefighter. Most learners thought Charlie was a male as they thought Charlie was a boys name. We discussed how Charlie can also be a nickname for somebody called Charlotte. We talked about whether we think of firefighters as male or female and 7A said they thought a firefighter could be a male or a female. We then split into groups and thought about different jobs we could do in the future, the skills needed and discussed whether different jobs were just for males or just for females. 7A believe anybody can do any job as long as they have the right skills. We discussed the skills we need to reach our aspirations. Well done 7A you had some very grown up discussions today.
