Today Sycamore have enjoyed a fun-filled day learning about Diwali.

Sycamore have been learning different facts about Diwali. We found out that:

  • Diwali is a very important festival celebrated by many people around the world.
  • Diwali is celebrated by Hindu’s but can be celebrated by other religions too.
  • Diwali is sometimes called the ‘festival of lights’.
  • Diwali is celebrated every year.
  • Rangoli patterns are drawn on the floors of houses. We know rangoli patterns are made using colour.

We explored Diwali through a range of activities, including;

  • Story time listening to ‘Dipal’s Diwali’. We learned about lots of fact about Diwali through Dipal’s exciting celebrations with his family. We saw lots of beautiful and colourful decorations, rangoli patterns and fireworks in the pictures in the book.
  • We enjoyed mark-making and pattern-making outdoors, using chalks on the playground designing our very own rangoli patterns for our friends around school to see.
  • Designing and making our own rangoli style window decorations, using different skills including drawing, cutting, ripping, folding and sticking.
  • Colouring different rangoli patterns using pencils and crayons. We even used the class iPads to colour Divali themed pictures.
  • Designing our own candle holders using playdough, we even added a rainbow tea-light. Sycamore then used positional language to describe where their light had been put.

Why not ask your child what they can remember about Diwali?
