Hello everyone, I have to say that this week has just been “one of those weeks”. You know the ones where everything seems to go to pot or go wrong?! But hey ho, we have made it to the end in one piece!

On Monday morning, we learnt one of our signs of the week was “Year of the Rabbit”, as it was Chinese New Year on Sunday 22nd January and 2023 will be the year of the rabbit.
Group 1 went shopping with Miss Holliday and Mrs Cobham to Asda later whilst the rest of us stayed in class to work on our Maths themed PLGs. Tyler’s group were competing against each other to see who would score the highest on our time quiz looking at analogue and digital time, whilst the rest of were learning about money

In the afternoon, it was our second PSHE/Sex Education lesson in class. We recapped about what he had talked about in the previous session about bodies and body parts, then split into groups. One group were labelling photographs of themselves with names of parts of the body, whilst the other two groups were looking at the differences between males and females. We had some really sensible discussions and it was good to find out that lots of us have remembered how our bodies change during puberty.

It was Jacob’s birthday at the weekend, so in snack time on Monday we sang happy birthday to him and shared cake together. Then it was the moment that all of 10G had been waiting for… it was time to try Prime! Personally, I do not understand the fascination that kids up and down the country have with this drink but it’s safe to say, since we bought a bottle of it last week, there has been little else spoken about in class. We decided to take part in a blind taste test, comparing lemon and lime Prime with Asda’s own lemon and lime flavoured water. Pupils closed their eyes and tried cup 1 and cup 2, then had to decide which they preferred. There was an overwhelming majority win for Prime, whereas only 2 pupils decided that Asda’s water tasted better. 10G staff also sampled the Prime drink and decided it wasn’t very nice!

On Tuesday morning, Group 2 went shopping with Mrs Cobham, Miss Patterson and Miss Smith to buy the ingredients that we needed for our Chinese New Year themed cooking activity.
It was cooking in the afternoon, and we all stayed in class to work through the spring roll recipe together. Lots of chopping and grating of vegetables happened, and some very sensible use of a sharp knife as well. Unfortunately, we took so long to make the spring rolls that we ran out of time to cook and eat them so we had to save them until Wednesday afternoon snack time.

Wednesday arrived and in the morning we continued with our Online Safety lessons. We finished off looking at the social media profiles that we had looked at last week and discussed about what was safe information to share about our identities and what we needed to keep private from strangers. We looked at the final profile together that looked similar to one you might see on YouTube. This led to a discussion about whether the profile belonged to a boy or a girl and turned into a healthy debate about likes and hobbies don’t have to be determined by gender. We all agreed that if a profile isn’t set to private, we should only share minimal information on there and that the safest way to be is to keep our profile’s private and only accept follower requests from people we know.

The weather was very wet on Wednesday and by the time the afternoon arrived, we had lots of learners in the Yellow Zone. We decided we needed to do some regulation before starting our PE lesson so we chose to listen to some relaxing music with our eyes closed. Josh nearly went to sleep he was so relaxed! For PE this week we decided to have a change this week and all go into the hall together. We played some games that involved running around the hall and following instructions, this really got our heart rates up and lots of us were sweating too! We finished off by getting the body boards and wobble cars out of the cupboard. Some of us worked with our friends and made up our own games involving passing the ball and travelling around the hall. Some of us liked using our feet to make ourselves move as fast as possible around the hall. To end the lesson, we had some races up and down the hall. There were lots of crashes but lots of smiles too!

On Thursday morning, Mrs Fisher was off site at a meeting with Miss Della Fera so Mrs Cobham led the class who were making decorations ready for the Valentine’s disco. Group 3 went shopping with Miss Patterson and Miss Smith to Asda. In the afternoon, Miss Anderton came into class to continue with our Science topic of forces.

At the end of the week, we welcomed Mrs Kelly who visits our class every Friday to work with us. We love having Mrs Kelly in our class! Mrs Kelly’s tutor came to observe her this week and told her what a fabulous job she is doing, well done Mrs Kelly!
It was Group 4’s turn to go shopping with Mrs Cobham and Miss Holliday whilst the rest of us stayed in school working on our English PLG’s.

Congratulations to 10G’s Star of the Week this week- Danny! Danny is our class Deputy School Councillor and this week, as part of his role, Danny supported the interviews that were taking place in school. Mrs Hand led the councillor’s and she said what a fantastic job Danny did taking part. Well done, Danny!

I obviously cannot end the blog this week without mentioning about our change of class staff from next Monday. Our amazing Miss Patterson is moving to Oak class in primary from Monday and we will be gaining the wonderful Miss Greenwood in her place. We are incredibly sad to be losing Miss Patterson, but we know that she will be just as amazing in Oak class with their pupils and staff as she has been in 10G. Miss Greenwood came to visit us on Friday afternoon and she is very excited to get to know us all in 10G, as we are to get to know her. Whilst we all need to learn that changes do happen and that this is OK, this change will likely affect some of our learners in 10G. We have reassured everyone that we will still be able to see Miss Patterson in school and we will support our learners with this transition.

Enjoy your weekend and we will see everyone on Monday morning for more learning and fun!
