This Wednesday afternoon, 9A looked at what is Holi and why people all over the world celebrate it.

We learnt that it marks the beginning of spring. And during Holi, people celebrate the story of Prahlad.

Prahlad’s father was a cruel king that wanted everyone to worship him, but Prahlad didn’t worship him, he worshipped the God of Vishnu. This made the king angry.

The king made his sister Holika put Parhlad into a fire.

God Vishnu saved Prahlad and Holika was turned into ashes.

Bonfires are lit the night before Holi and people sing and dance around the fire. The next day, people participate in a Carnival of Colour. This is where everyone throws colourful powder paint.

Next, 9A used colourful felt tips to colour in a paper chain and we placed it on 9As door.

Everyone then went outside. The learners that wanted to be involved with the colour activity went into the cage where we were given a bag of powder paint.

Then, well a colourful mass of colour explosion. Even our 9As that didn’t want the powder paint on them got involved by throwing a few colours.

Then we went around the track where there were four colour stations, manned by Mr Welsh, Miss Wells, Mrs Couch and Mrs Linde, and I bet you can guess what happened….. that’s right, more colour explosions.

With the mixture of powder paint and the scatter of snowflakes, fun was had by all.

It was lovely to see smiles on learners and staff faces, all coming together, even if they were involved or just watching.

A huge thank you to everyone who organised this wonderful, colourful event, it was a massive success.
