So Monday started with us reading examples of letters, written in a formal tone. It was funny reading what the people were complaining about but we found some interesting vocabulary that the author had used to get his point across. After break we had maths, where we are recapping addition and subtraction. We will use the skills learnt in our maths lessons to help us on our community visits when finding the totals of the items we need to buy and the change we should get when we pay. In the afternoon, Mrs Fisher came in to see what we knew about healthy living. We used our iPads to share what we knew onto the class whiteboard.

On Tuesday morning, we looked at informal letters and found some differences between those and the letters we read yesterday. We decided we preferred informal letters, as they were more chatty and they're they types of letters we would write to our friends. In maths we continued our number work, building on the skills we learnt yesterday. In the afternoon we got to put those skills into practise when we visited Asda. We bought the ingredients we needed for our cooking lessons and then we visited the park on the way back to school.

On Wednesday morning we we swimming at Hindley Pool. The swimming teacher is really impressed with our swimming and can see us making lots of progress over the next few weeks. In the afternoon we looked at the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. He used seasonal fruit and vegetables to create portraits, so we used images of fruit and veg to create our self-portrait. Have a look at the pictures below and see if you can guess who is who!

On Thursday morning we continued our English by reading a persuasive letter. It was written by B. B. Wolf about the nuisance in his woods that he calls little girls (can you guess the fairytale???). We liked the way he described the different characters from different fairytales and how he tried to get the reader to think like him. By the end, we didn't agree with him and still decided that he was the nuisance! We then had to work in our groups to persuade Miss Bentham to change something about our school - suggestions including bring in a candy machine, introducing a 4-day week and also building a Greggs counter! Let's just say, none of them passed! Our next lesson was food tech - we are focussing on healthy recipes and this week we made vegetable couscous. A few little reminders were needed about how to hold knives and to make sure that we are checking the recipe but the final product got mixed reviews. Of the learners that tried it, there was a 50/50 decision of likes and dislikes. We'll try again next week with a different recipe! In the afternoon we did hockey in our PE lesson. We built on the skills learnt last year and even introduced tackling.

Friday morning saw us restarting our work experience. We went down to Beech, Chestnut, Maple and Oak to work with the adults in there. Some of our learners also took on the roles of site staff, completing tasks around the school grounds. It was enjoyed by all and we can't wait to do it again next week! In the afternoon we had golden time and celebration assembly. Our star of the week this week is Jake for showing huge improvement in his hockey skills! Well done Jake.
