
It’s Careers week In KS4! The learners have lots to look forward to and lots of different people coming into speak to them about their next steps.
On Monday, a lady from Runshaw College visited our school to provide us with information about the college experience. She spoke in detail about what Runshaw College is like, what we can expect and how best to prepare for the transition to college life. After her talk, we participated in a Picture News activity that had the question, "Is it important to feel proud of where you come from?" We looked at the how other countries show that they are proud of where they’re from, this included different food, traditional dresses and attending community and patriotic events.
In the afternoon a lady from The Department of Work and Pensions to talk to us about our next steps. She will be coming in for the next five weeks and discussing lots of things.
This afternoon was an ice breaker and getting to know each other session. We all sat around in a circle in our social area , Lee asked which superhero would we be, what our favourite food is and which animal would we be. All the learners were able to give really good answers. Next we talked about a time when the learners felt proud, it made us feel proud listening to the learners!!!
Everyone enjoyed the session and got a lot out of it, they all joined in and we are looking forward to seeing Lee next week.
On Tuesday morning Alison from Chorley Enterprise came in to speak to the learners about enterprise and making money for our school and prom.
Alison showed us some bag charms and asked us to design our own and make one. We had to cost up the items needed for the bag charms and then decide how much we could sell them for.
After break some ex students came into school to speak to us about college life. They told us about their day in college .
In the afternoon we went to All Seasons Leisure Centre to practice some more tennis skills. This week we focused on our serving and hitting the ball with our forearm.
It’s Jake’s 15th birthday today so he brought cakes in to celebrate with his friends. Happy Birthday Jake!!!
On Wednesday morning 10A had a visit from Stuart who left school in 2016, he spoke to the learners about his time at school and his dreams when he was here. They old us learners enjoyed listening to him and asked lots of questions.
In maths we looked at shapes and angles again. In our Asdan lesson we researched about postanatal care for mothers and baby and essential things needed for mum and bay.
On Thursday morning, we had a visit from TELENT. A gentleman spoke about workplace health and safety. He detailed his job responsibilities and demonstrated proper lifting techniques, showing the importance of protecting our backs to prevent injuries. He brought a spine model to illustrate why our back health is crucial. After his presentation, we tested our knowledge with a fun Kahoot! quiz, the winner was Jake!
Then, a lady from TELENT joined us to talk about interview skills. She guided us through some practice questions, helping us to prepare for real-life interview scenarios. She discussed what to say during an interview and what not to say. Then she asked us what would we wear and discussed the steps that you need to take to prepare for an interview. Then the lady gave us all a mirror, and we had to look at ourselves when we was talking and recognised negative behaviours and positive behaviours, during interviews.
In the afternoon, we all made ham and cheese toasties and aimed to be as independent as possible. Once again, we didn’t need to follow a recipe. Everyone worked carefully, remembering the techniques we had learned before, remembering how to keep ourselves safe. These were described as “good” and “fantastic”
On Friday morning, a lady from The Lowther Pavilion visited to talk about her role in theatre. She explained that there are many different jobs in the theatre and we all guessed the different jobs. We all introduced ourselves and shared something we enjoyed.
Next, we acted out freeze frames of various jobs in the theatre. We then discussed pantomimes, and the lady showed us different costumes and materials. Some of us worked on creating a set, while others acted out different character. We chose the film "Frozen" to perform. We then presented our ideas to each other
After this, a gentleman from BOCSH visited us and shared insights about his role as a trainer. He mentioned that he has even trained individuals in their 80s! He discussed the various aspects of his job. He discussed how it’s important to keep learning. He emphasised how important positive mindset is.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed golden time with our friends, and celebration assembly. This weeks star of the week is, Ben - for good effort in maths, learning about shapes; and for joining in with the careers workshops. Well done Ben!
