Sports week in 7P
This week it’s been Sports week at Astley Park school. The learners followed a within-task schedule on what activities they were getting involved in.
On Monday, 7Ps first Sports activity was zorbing on the field. They did good listening on how to get into the zorbing balls. They were a very tight squeeze but they managed it.
Next was Dance in the hall. Before we started dancing, we did some warm up exercises. We did lots of marching and stretching.
The dance we were going to dance to was “Green, Green Grass”. The learners had to copy movements from the dance instructors. They were brilliant. We even did a bit of free styling. We then made a huge circle and copied each other’s movements.
To finish off we had to dance like a fish then dance like one of our favourite animals. We saw a monkey dance, a dog dance, even a hedgehog dance.
Then to finish Monday off, they all had time on the bikes and climbing frame.
On Tuesday when half of the class went swimming, the other part of 7P did boccia on the field. Firstly the instructor placed a white ball a couple of feet away from them. The learners then got a coloured ball and the aim of this activity was to roll their ball to the white ball. They did amazing and all had a good go. Then the learners separated into two group. We had a red team and a blue team. They played five games and ………the Red team won (but only by one point). The blue team were a little sad but staff explained that it’s not the winning , it’s the taking part that matters.
In the afternoon we all went into the hall to learn some circus skills. Adrian was our circus instructor and showed us some amazing circus tricks. The learners really enjoyed doing balancing, plate twirling, hula hooping, juggling, stilts, just naming a few. Even the staff joined in.
Wednesday morning started off with crazy golf. The learners lined up and did some amazing turn taking. There were 9 holes in our crazy golf course. The learners did some brilliant putting of the ball and worked around the course.
Next, after a little break it was balloon tennis. Firstly, we did a small warm up excerise, balancing the ballon on the racket. Then the learners did little bounces of the balloon on their racket. After that, the learners played balloon tennis. The balloons had a mind of their own with the slight wind we had, which was needed and made it more fun.
To finish off our Wednesday we did Indian dancing in the hall. We had a lovely lady instructor that showed us different Indian moves. We followed step by step and at the end all the movements were put together and we danced to music. Well done, you were amazing at Indian dancing.
On Thursday we started our day off with yoga in our new garden room with Tracey.
Firstly we started off sitting on the floor and doing good breathing, in through the nose, out through the mouth. Then we added some stretches. Next we stood up and did some balancing. We started off a little wobbly but after a bit we were balancing still. Then we all laid down and did some relaxing to music. Finally the learners sat up, and showed off their muscles and said “ I am strong”, next sat up straight and said “ I am brave” and lastly gave themselves a hug and said “ I am loved”. What a lovely, respectful and relaxing yoga session. Thank you Tracey.
Then Thursday afternoon was our main Sports Day. The learners worked around the circuits that Miss Buck had kindly arranged. There were running, hoop hops, football skills, water balloon throwing and the good old fashion egg and spoon, just naming a few. We finished off the day with all classes participating in the relay race. It was a great afternoon and it was lovely to see parents and carers supporting this day.
On Friday morning we did football skills. We split into 3 teams. The learners had to dribble the football around some cones and back again. Next the class did some super goal shooting into the net.
Our final sports day activity was the bouncy castle. It was a brilliant way to end our week. What a fantastic week we’ve all had, well done 7P!
