This week 9G have been looking at gender stereotypes. We read a story about a Daddy Seahorse who looks after the eggs until they hatched. We talked about how it isn’t always mummy’s that do things for you, daddy’s do just as much!

We then took part in two activities, one where we chose  things we liked to do. At the end of the lesson Miss Hendy looked at them and said ‘oh, you can’t horse ride, you are a boy’ or ‘you can’t go swimming it’s only for girls’. The children were very clear that they liked that activities and some of them said both boys and girls can do the activity, which I reminded them was right!

We then took part in an activity where we sorted jobs into man, lady or both. Lots of the children thought that some jobs were just for a man or just for a lady. Some children recognised that they were for both, like a teacher or a police officer. In the end we talked about how you can do all jobs if you are a man or a lady, it doesn’t matter!

Finally, Miss Hendy read some statements out and the children decided if they were about a man or a lady. Again some said a man, some said a lady, but a few children knew that they were for both!

By the end of the session we knew that men and ladies can do all jobs, activities and games and that is ok!
