We have continued our work on Diwali at the beginning of our week in 7A this week.
On Monday we started to read a story called Dipal’s Diwali that follows a Hindu family throughout their Diwali celebrations. We all enjoyed learning more about Diwali and what is involved during the celebrations. We have continued to work on sentence structure using Colourful Semantics on the Book Creator app on the iPad as well as answering questions about what we have read and practicing writing our answers using full sentences.
On Monday afternoon we worked on our creative flair by working in small groups to create some salt dough. We worked in teams to weigh out the ingredients and then successfully combine them, finishing off the dough with lots of kneading. The salt dough was used to make our own Diyas that were featured in our Diwali story from in the morning and that are lit with a candle and used to decorate the home during the Diwali festival.
Once we had tidied up it was time for our Me and My Body session, and it was our turn to use the bikes but unfortunately, the bike shed key was nowhere to be found! Instead we took advantage of our use of the outdoor areas and split into two groups- the first group played a turn taking game in the cage involving a penalty shoot out tournament led by Mr Stokes. It was brilliant to see lots of teamwork and turn taking going on, accompanied by some cheering and encouragement too. The second group were on the playground keeping our bodies fit and healthy by walking laps of the yard. I think JJ and Megan held the record for 8 laps in total!
Every morning this week we have been trying out our new Playdoh Gym video, made up of our favourite songs at the moment. It’s packed full of Disney songs with a mix of songs in between (we love that everyone has their own taste in music that they love in 7A!). We had lots of fun joining in with the exercises and listening to everyone’s different songs.
in My Thinking and Problem Solving on Tuesday morning, we continued to build on the homework from last week by working on our subtraction skills. We practiced using a number line to help us and practiced counting backwards and forwards to find the correct answer. We played some Maths games on Education City on our 1:1 iPads then used the Sketches app on the iPad to design our Diyas ready for painting later on.
In the afternoon we carefully painted our Diyas ready to varnish later in the week. Then it was our weekly slot on the climbing frame outside. Thankfully the weather was dry and we all got to enjoy a good climb and play together.
Finally, on Wednesday morning we finished reading Dipal’s Diwali story and used our iPads to build the next few sentences about the pictures from the story using Colourful Semantics. It is wonderful to see everyone’s confidence building as they use the Book Creator app and become more familiar with it and it works really well alongside the Colourful Semantics work that we have been doing.
So, I hand over to Mrs Crouch for the rest of the week. Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and I will see you next Monday.
