8A have been joining in with the celebrations around school for Rainbow Week this week.
At the beginning of the week some of our Adventurer learners took part in an Attention Autism session with Mrs Fisher and Miss Berry. We practiced naming the colours and watched Mrs Fisher perform some magic with some food colouring, milk and washing up liquid! For Stage 3, we took turns to create sponge rainbow using the correct colours- they turned out fantastically!
On Wednesday, our Voyagers took part in a session where they learnt more about Pride and why we celebrate it. We talked about the different terminology that might be used when speaking about people from the LGBTQ+ community and about how we should use the correct words when we do this, not using derogatory or offensive terms. Everyone was very sensible and thoughtful when taking part in this discussion and we had some very mature comments that we could discuss further.
We decided to work together to decorate our flag ready for the parade on Friday. We all took turns to paint the flag in rainbow colours- we think it looks amazing!
On Thursday, the Voyagers learnt a bit more about why people celebrate Pride in June, reading news articles on the Newsround website and watching videos to find out more.
On Friday, everybody joined in with the school rainbow walk around the track which we really enjoyed, before completing some rainbow craft activities in class!
