Today we had a visit from a Buddhist Monk, Kelsang Pagpa. All Buddhist monks are named Kelsang which means ‘fortunate one’ and his name Pagpa means ‘realised ultimate truth’.
He wore orange robes which are meant to symbolize simplicity and detachment of materialism.
He spoke to us about how to be happy, compassionate and develop our positive minds and make them stronger.
He told us how Buddha was his hero and that was what he wanted to be to others.
Pagba taught us how to meditate as this is what the Buddhist Monks do to stay calm and it may help us if we are feeling frustrated or angry.
We all to got comfortable, Pagba asked us to sit up straight and to try to stop thinking about ordinary things, breathe in and out and focus on the feeling of our breathing, which is very calming and helps us to stop thinking about everyday things. We all sat beautifully still and quiet and closed our eyes. It was very serene.
Pagba told us that it is always a good idea to practice meditation and was impressed when we told him we do meditation in class every day.
When we got back to class everyone said they felt very relaxed and that they had enjoyed the time spent with Pagba.
