We have been learning about many different Celebrations in both Autumn 1 and autumn 2 in 7P.
We have got into the autumnal and spooky spirit of Halloween especially getting messy with the pumpkins and enjoying our witches kitchen making our own recipes.
Then we went on to learn about bonfire night, why we celebrate this and how we need to keep safe. Some of our learners made their own bonfire images using a pixel graphic programme on their iPads. As you can see from the pictures they have got very creative! We also explored make making opportunities and had a go at using our iPad for colouring activities, showing how they can be used for a variety of reasons. 7P showed that had a real love for the sand, so this has stayed as a staple activity in 7P this half term so learners can develop their sharing and communication skills.
Next, we learnt about the celebration Diwali. 7P loved all the colours and experiences of light that this festival gives. Some of our Adventurers Challenge learners had a go at writing a Diwali acrostic poem using what we had learnt. Some of our adventurers worked on matching image and words from the topic together and worked on their mark making skills. Our explorers in 7P had lots of sensory experiences of light toys, coloured sand, beans and lentils and music to experience the celebration.
7P have continued to work on their communication skills through games and the use of continuous provision. We have also been enjoying our P.E lesson on jumping which is introducing us to the early stages of gymnastics. Our explorer learners have continued to enjoy sensory circuits and intensive interaction to support their regulation.
We ended the week with an attention autism for Remembrance, which everyone was very respectful throughout. Those of us who could said ‘We will remember them’ as we dropped the poppy petals on the crosses. 7P then undertook fine motor activities and creative activities linked to the poppy symbol. Those that were able went outside to listen to Mrs Chaloner play the last post and did a 1 minutes silence.
7P are taking part in Friendship week next week as their next celebration, and then it won’t be long before we move on to looking at other celebrations around the world such as Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas!
