Welcome back to our final term for 11G at Astley Park School! How crazy does that sound?! We hope that everyone had a lovely Easter break. We are all raring to go for our last term.

On Monday morning we welcomed everyone back to class. As I mentioned in my email before we came back, the plan for PE this half term was to join forces with 10A to take part in Boxercise classes in the hall. Unfortunately, this is now unable to happen which means we will still do PE on a Monday morning but instead, we will visit All Seasons gym.

This week we had to improvise as the weather outside was very wet so we stayed in class and took part in a Get Fit with Rick walking workout followed by a boxercise workout, both off YouTube. It was hard work but we had lots of fun.

In the afternoon, Mrs Fisher and Mr Crofts took groups up to food tech to bake our goodies to sell in our staff tuck shop on Wednesday afternoon while Mrs Cobham and Miss Brown stayed in class for Good to Be Me. This week they looked at what makes us happy and learners made their own poster including the things that make them happy in their lives.

On Tuesday morning we were lucky enough to take part in a drama workshop with Rob from Konflux Theatre themed around recycling. We began with some freeze frame games and then discussed the issue of pollution in the environment and cutting down on emissions. We looked at alternatives that we could use instead of travelling in a car to something that is a short distance away from us. In groups, we had to create a mode of transport using our bodies. Jacob, Eshan and Lily were a scooter, as were Katie, Clayton and Reece then Harry, Danny and Josh were a train.

For the final part, Rob transformed into a game show host and we took part in a quiz show called Commotion in the Ocean. We split into 3 teams and had to answer multiple choice questions about pollution in our oceans. Well done to Danny, Harry and Josh’s team who scored the most points. A big thank you to Rob, we all thoroughly enjoyed our session!

In the afternoon it was time to share our Holiday News with everyone in class. Lily showed us her new Gryffindor mug that she bought from Harry Potter Studios then we split into 4 groups and shared our photos. We asked and answered questions and worked on giving information and speaking in sentences. We finished the session with some volunteers presenting their information and photos to the class by standing at the front.

On Wednesday morning Mrs Fisher was at a sporting tournament with Katie, Reece and Eshan. The remaining pupils and staff were on bacon butty duties as part of our ongoing Enterprise project to raise money for prom.
In the afternoon, Mrs Mahood was in class teaching us about Eid. We learned how to sign Eid in Makaton and we practiced saying some words which are associated with Eid. We learned that Muslims go to a mosque to pray rather than a church, that their holy book is called the Quran and that they fast in the day for a month during Ramadan. We learned that Eid is the festival at the end of Ramadan and they celebrate with special meals and wearing new clothes as well as giving and receiving presents and money. We created beautiful Eid silhouette pictures by painting  stripes of red and yellow then blending them to create sunset backgrounds. We then cut out and glued on pictures of mosques, crescent moons and stars. The finished artworks are fantastic - well done!

Thursday morning was a quick workout followed by a very fast power walk to Chorley in Bloom so that we weren’t late! This week Gill asked us to plant some seeds and bring them back to school to look after, then she showed us the food that they have grown at the All Seasons Chorley in Bloom site: potatoes, lettuce, onions.

In the afternoon we focused on our reading and completed our mid point reading assessments. It is brilliant to see so much progress that has been made since the Autumn term.

On Friday morning we finished our reading assessments and then had our first Maths lesson of Summer term. This term we are learning about money. We played the Quiz Wheel game together where players had to recognise the coins or notes displayed on the screen. The winning team were Harry and Lily. Then we split into groups where we were combining coins to make different amounts and working out the total of a combination of coins.

In the afternoon we completed a second workout before having Golden Time and Celebration Assembly.

A massive well done to Danny who is our Star of the Week this week in 11G. Danny has been putting his Digital Leader skills to the test by helping three of his peers in class to complete a piece of work and showing them how to do it themselves. Great teamwork Danny!

PE will be every Monday and we will be going to the gym. Please can everyone come in wearing PE kit and bring some deodorant with them to leave in school.
