This week in English, we thought of a place we would like to visit on holiday and created a word bank to describe it. We then used these words to tell our families about our holiday on a postcard. We had to be sure to not write too much, as postcards aren't very big, but I think we all got across what we would like to say to our families back home!
In maths, we have been looking at addition and subtraction word problems, thinking about what the question is asking us to do and what important information we can find that we can use to find the answer. It was tricky but we will keep going with it!
On Monday afternoon, we revisited and completed a diagram of 'The Eatwell Plate', thinking about portion sizes and what should be included in a meal. This is all part of our Healthy Living ASDAN topic. The learners have shown a great understanding in this topic about what healthy choices they can make in their lives - I wonder if they have made any changes at home!
Tuesday afternoon saw us visiting Asda for our shopping for the week. We also sneaked a visit into the cafe, to delay the return to school as it was cold and wet!
On Wednesday morning we were back at Hindley Pool for our swimming lesson. We have seen huge progress this term, in both technique and stamina. In the afternoon, we learned about Black History Month. We looked at why it was first introduced and then researched famous black people from UK history. These included Joe Clough (the first black bus driver), Baroness Lawrence, Dame Jocelyn Barrow (worked for the BBC), John Kent (the first black police officer) and Frank Bailey (the first black fire fighter). We then presented what we had found to the rest of the class.
We had our first college visit on Thursday morning to Preston College. It was eye-opening to see the size of the college but we all thought it was amazing, even if it wasn't where we wanted to go after Astley Park! We saw the performing arts classrooms, the art and design rooms, the garage where they learn mechanics, the salon where they do hairdressing and beauty and we were shown the food court! I think the food court was the most exciting part of the visit!! In the afternoon, we had our final hockey lesson of the term. We used everything we have learnt over the last 6 weeks to play small-sided games - the progress in skills is incredible! We passed to our friends and even tackled to get the ball back for our teams! Well done everyone!
Friday morning saw us back doing our weekly work experience. So great to get everyone involved in the school community, helping out where we can! In the afternoon we had golden time and celebration assembly. Our star of the week this week is Olivia, for being really positive in school this week! Well done Liv!
