This week, the learners in 9A took part in a sensory activity exploring a range of fruits and vegetables. It was a hands‑on session where everyone had the chance to notice colours, textures, smells and, most importantly, tastes. The photos from the lesson show learners taking exploring at their own pace and engaging really positively with the activity. Every learner tried most of the foods offered, and we were really proud of how willing they were to give things a go.

They used their senses to explore each item, feeling whether something was smooth, bumpy, soft or firm, and looking closely at the different shapes and colours. For some, trying a new taste was a big step, and they approached it with growing confidence. All learners expressed their likes and dislikes well, whether through words, gestures, facial expressions or simply making it clear when something wasn’t for them.

Throughout the session, we also practiced small but important moments of independence, such as choosing what to try next and keeping safe and hygienic in the kitchen. For example, knowing to wear gloves or washing hands after handling food. Within the lesson, we compared foods, explained preferences and recorded our findings together on worksheets.

Across the class, learners showed curiosity, confidence and super communication. They explored a wide variety of fruits and vegetables such as grapefruit, dates, pomelo fruit, pomegranate and more. We were impressed at how some learners used sensory language to describe what they found. It was a really fun lesson and the photos capture the learners engaging really positively with the experience.
