Again this week started with Picture News. The topic this week was around the reduction in age of voting in England. We talked about what it means to vote and why we do it. We also talked about whether we felt ready to vote next year and what we need to think about to make an informed decision. At the end of the session, learners were asked if they could change the current laws, what would they change. The following are some of the suggestions we came up with:
- Close schools down..
- Have Fridays off school and get paid to go to school..
- Make things in the shops less expensive..
- Feed and house the homeless..
- Plant more trees..
- Change the laws around You Tube and Snapchat so that you don't have to be 13..
In maths this week, we continued to look at the properties of numbers. We have also been looking at different visual representations of numbers, including place value charts, part-whole models and base 10. These really help us to 'see' the numbers and work with them mentally.
On Monday afternoon, we got into the *cough cough* Christmas spirit, creating our card designs to be sent off! It was an interesting afternoon in September, drawing Christmas pictures and listening to Christmas music!!
On Tuesday morning, we completed some dictionary work, following the rules given to find different words in the dictionary. In the afternoon, we went swimming again. This week we warmed up by running a full length of the pool (was harder than it looked), then we pretended to be frogs by ducking under the water, touching the floor and bouncing back up. Then we worked on our front crawl, swimming lengths of the pool.
On Wednesday afternoon, we did online safety. We talked about what our identity was and decided it was what made us, us! We played 20 questions, thinking about what we needed to know about someone to be able to guess who they were, deciding that it was easier to ask questions about physical features, rather than hobbies and likes. We then looked at 3 different online profiles, identifying the different information that was shared. It made us think about what we should share online.. and what we shouldn't!
On Thursday morning, we were back at Chorley in Bloom. There was so much going on this week, it was hard to keep track of. We had a group weeding the paths, a group clearing out an area of leaves and branches that had been cut down, a group breaking down the branches to clear away into boxes and a group planting baby spider plants! It was a great session, as everyone was so busy! In the afternoon, a small group went to Tesco to do our weekly shop for snack and breakfast butties.
As Friday morning is our Enterprise morning, the same group that went shopping went into the food tech room to make the breakfast butties. Everyone had a job to do and they worked so well together to make sure everything ran smoothly!
Our **Stars of the Week** this week are Ollie and Luca, for working as a team when completing a really tricky maths problems solving activity. Well done boys!
