Sycamore have enjoyed a day of activities themed around ‘Remembrance Day’.

This morning we enjoyed a circle time and we shared our ideas and what we remember about Remembrance Day. We then had our 2 minutes silence to remember all the soldiers who have fought in wars to help keep us safe.

We joined in different activities including:

  • Writing acrostic poems using key vocabulary words about Remembrance Day, poppies and the war. Some of us thought of our own words and some of us found words on the table to match the letters.
  • Ordering the months of the year and talking about other special events in the year.
  • Applying our number knowledge to colour in colour-by-number pictures.
  • Using our letter skills to identify letters and words of Remembrance Day key vocabulary in our word searches.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a ‘What’s in the Box’ activity. Listening to Miss Cross model language and key learning points of Remembrance Day.

We have learned that:

  • Remembrance Day is today the 11th November and we celebrate it every year.
  • It is also called Poppy day.
  • At 11 o’clock, people stay silent for two minutes and remember the soldiers.
  • Poppies help us to remember the soldiers and animals that died.
  • Some people join a parade on Remembrance Day.
  • The soldiers fought in the war to keep us safe.

Why not ask your child what they can remember about their learning?
