This week at school we have been focusing on “Different Families, Same Love”.

We started the week exploring the different families in class and around school, collecting data and recording this using tally charts and pictograms in My Thinking and Problem Solving. We also worked on our money skills.

We read the story “Picnic in the Park” during a Teams call and discussed the different families in the story. We then wrote about who was in our families and drew pictures of our families at the park. We have been developing our understanding of language associated with families such as adopted, fostered and step-siblings.

During circle time on Friday, we discussed what LGBT means and learnt that although there a different types of relationships, all love is the same and all relationships are equal.

We have also explored our emotions this week. We have learnt about emotions we may experience during puberty and how we could manage these. We have talked about how our engines may feel and suggested regulation strategies that may help when we are feeling fast or slow.

In My Community, some learners also have been learning about online safety and how to be kind to each other online.

In Me and My Body, we have been developing racket skills. We practiced balancing our ball on our racket, bouncing the ball and rallying with a peer. It was lots of fun.

We are also moving on to developing our expressive language and drama skills in My Communication. We have watched a film clip from The Incredibles and then had to work together to write a script for our own superhero scene. We practiced performing the script. We can’t wait to do the final filming next week and share the video with you all.
