This week Sycamore have been busy learning new facts about ‘Islam’ and the festival of ‘Eid’.

We have been learning that;

  • Islam is a religion.
  • Muslims are people who follow Islam.
  • Eid is a Muslim festival, celebrated at the end of Ramadan.
  • Ramadan is when grown up Muslims do not eat or drink during the day. We also learned a special word for not eating and drinking called fasting!

We have also been learning about and exploring some of the ways Muslims prepare for, and celebrate Eid.

We learned that;

  • Muslims say ‘Eid Murbarak’ to their friends and family during the festival.
  • ‘Eid Murbarak’ means ‘Have a blessed Eid’.
  • Muslims celebrate Eid by wearing new clothes.
  • Muslims enjoy sharing meals with their family and friends.
  • Homes are decorated with lots of colourful decorations.
  • Muslims go to the Mosque to pray.
  • Muslims see their friends and family and give each other cards and gifts.
  • Women and girls decorate their hands with Mehndi pattens - which is a form of body art.

We have enjoyed a range of celebratory activities in class that included:

  • making a card for someone special
  • designing our own Eid outfit
  • designing our own mehndi patterns
  • sharing foods with our friends
  • creating colourful decorations for class
