This week classes at Astley Park have been focussing on smashing stereotypes. Stereotypes restrict the ways in which we see ourselves, others and the world around us. They make us jump to conclusions, which can stop us from getting an accurate picture.  We have been learning that  stereotypes stop people from doing things that they really want to do, activities we would like to take part in or games we would like to play.

Classes have explored stereotypes through literacy, discussions, visuals, creative tasks and play to help learners understand that it isn’t helpful to judge people by first impressions and appearances.  It encourages children to think about the various stereotypes and labels that are commonly attached to different professions, genders and abilities.
